Frankenbatting
Pay attention to geometry of the batting pieces
6/5/20251 min read

I was putting together a "quick" scrap project to be quilted and needed batting. I grabbed several pieces of cutoffs from prior projects and zigzagged them together. I did this with the pieces in front of the machine and butting relatively straight edges together.
As I continued to advance the project, I tugged and tried to smooth as I went. Eventually there was no place for the excess batting to go.
I made a surgical decision and cut away the excess. My quilting was pretty dense (and this was a text project) so I didn't bother suturing the loose edges together.
It worked fine, but...
Note to self, when piecing Frankenbatting, do it the right way -- lay out on my cutting mat, overlap two pieces and cut through both layers to create a unified edge. And don't expect a flat piece of batting if I don't do this!
